1.Fong, Vanessa L. “Media, Identity, and Struggle in Twenty-First-Century China.” Critical Asian Studies 39.2 (2007): 255-8.
The paper talks about how the internet in china is changing the way that the government controls its people, including new ways of censorship, and how the internet bay be used to topple the Chinese government and democratize China. This paper shows to me that the internet can be used to for the globalization of democracy.
2. Holloway, Darren. “Disparities in Internet Access: A Case Study of the Digital Divide in Western Sydney.” Australian Journal of Social Issues 37.1 (2002): 51-69.
This article is a case study of the use of the internet in Western Sydney, Australia. This article suggests that the amount of wealth or education a certain area has is directly proportional to the amount of internet access they have.
3. Howe, Richard A. “Valuing Technology.” Knowledge, Technology & Policy 17.3 (2004): 44-64.
This article discusses how much the internet is worth to corporations all over the world and also how much it is worth to the consumer. This article will help me prove that the only way for a business to stay competitive is to have a part in the internet.
4. KENNY, CHARLES. “The Internet and Economic Growth in Less-Developed Countries: A Case of Managing Expectations? 1.” Oxford Development Studies 31.1 (2003): 99.
Although this article talks about how the internet can hurt developing countries, it is an excellent source when talking about how it has benefited already strong economies. This article also talks about how developing countries need development and manpower, not the internet. This is a flat out contradiction with his main argument because when the infrastructure comes, so does the internet.
5. Lucas Jr., Henry C., and Richard Sylla. “The Global Impact of the Internet: Widening the Economic Gap between Wealthy and Poor Nations?” Prometheus 21.1 (2003): 3.
This article talks about how the internet can be used to either help or hurt developing countries. It focuses mostly, however, on what can be done with the internet to help the developing countries. This article will help my argument by stating some pro’s to internet in developing countries.
6. Denby, Lorraine, et al. “Statistical Aspects of the Analysis of Data Networks.” Technometrics 49.3 (2007): 318-34.
This article has many statistics and facts about how the internet is used and to what extent it is used in certain countries such as China. I can use it to prove that the internet is a positive force in china and other countries
7. Rouvinen, Petri. “Diffusion of Digital Mobile Telephony: Are Developing Countries Different?” Telecommunications Policy 30.1 (2006): 46-63.
This article talks about how even if in developing countries, the potential for innovation and growth is great, and can benefit the country enormously. It also talk a lot about how telephone companies move into a country and offer nationwide coverage and do much better that other well established companies.
8. Fusilier, Marcelline, et al. “A Four-Country Investigation of Factors Facilitating Student Internet use.” Cyber Psychology & Behavior 8.5 (2005): 454-64.
I can use this article to prove that there is a demand for the internet outside of the US. The article talks about how people in different countries wish to see more internet pages in their native language instead of English.
9. “China Eases Up on Bloggers.” Communications of the ACM 50.8 (2007): 7.
This article can be used in my paper to prove that the internet and the freedom that it brings can be a good thing for people under an oppressive government such as china’s. It talks about how china’s blogs are becoming less censored.
10. “Caught in the Net: Iran’s Web Connection.” Foreign Policy.158 (2007): 100.
This article focuses on how even Iran is having trouble with the internet and “western invasion” so they are trying to restrict the transfer of data in and out of their country over the internet. This article will be used to prove that even the most oppressive dictators cannot stop the internet from spreading democracy and capitalism.
